This course discusses the history and archaeology of ancient Greece from the early human activities during the Paleolithic period through to the Hellenistic period. The chronological sequence of lectures consists of a variety of topics, including the earliest societies in the Aegean, Bronze Ages palatial civilizations, the Dark Ages and the geometric period, the Orientalizing and Archaic period, the rise of the Greek city-states, the Classical Athens, and the legacy of Alexander the Great and his successors. Topics of ancient Greek life and society, including religion, domestic and public lifestyles, burial practices and interactions with other cultures are also covered.
